Serapi

Rugs described as from Serapi are typically woven in soft harmonious colors such as terracotta red, ivory, soft blue, pink and light greens. The design motifs are similar to those in Heriz rugs but less busy giving the rugs a more open design. There has been much discussion over the years, by rug scholars, as to the difference between Heriz and Serapi both of which were produced in the 19th Century in the same region with similarities in design but with intriguing differences. The Serapi rugs have become highly sought after and are increasingly difficult to find in the market.
